The news conference highlighted a new UIC Great Cities Institute report, titled “Latino Chicago and the Future of the City,” examining how Chicago’s Latino population has changed demographically, economically, and geographically over the past several decades. Researchers, elected officials, and community leaders discussed findings showing that Latinos now make up nearly 30 percent of Chicago’s population, are increasingly dispersed across the city, and play a growing role in the city’s workforce, housing market, and commercial corridors. The event also focused on persistent challenges related to housing affordability, transportation access, environmental conditions, and uneven investment, while emphasizing the need for policies that reflect the diversity of Latino neighborhoods and communities.
