About
Jason (Jay) Campos received the first BA in his family from the University of Illinois Chicago in both Criminology, Law, and Justice and Latin American and Latino Studies with a minor in Philosophy. Jay is currently a second-year M.A. student in Latin American and Latino Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago with a research focus on criminal governance in Venezuela. His work seeks to contribute to the growing field of criminal governance in Latin America, as well as the discourse on the relationship between crime, Latino youth, and the precarity that these communities endure.
As a Graduate Research Assistant at the Great Cities Institute, some of the major projects that Jay has worked on include a number of reports that deal with fiscal matters such as the Youth Joblessness and Disconnection, 2019–2023 report and the Chicago's Runaway Development Tool: Who Paid and Who Gained from 40+ Years of Tax Increment Financing report. Jay has also contributed to the 2024 Fuerza Mexicana report, as well as the Residents at the Table: 2026 Budget Engagement Findings report.
