Education is a hot button issue that permeates through nearly every other aspect of community development including issues of poverty.  Great Cities Institute is launching its Poverty to Prosperity initiative with its first forum, Great Cities, Great Schools.

We are very excited to bring Pedro Noguera to UIC.  When it comes to understanding the educational needs of our kids, what’s wrong with educational policy, and what are some wonderful and effective best practices, Dr. Noguera nails it.  Please join us on Monday evening, 6:30 p.m. at Student Center East 750 S. Halsted, to hear WBEZ Education Reporter, Linda Lutton, interview Professor Noguera on educational policies, including those specific to Chicago. There will be a reception following the conversation.

Co-sponsors for the event include the UIC College of Education, UIC Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy, and UIC Social Justice Initiative.

Professor Noguera is a frequent commentator on MSNBC, CNN and other media outlets. For more information on Dr. Noguera, please see his website from NYU.  At the bottom of his biography is a list of some of his publications.
