GCI summer additions, Xiomara Pedraza and Sara Agate, meet with Teresa Córdova to discuss GCI initiatives.
Dear GCI followers,
We hope that you are having a good summer. Here at Great Cities Institute, we have been very busy. The summer period gives us a chance to add more information to our website, including information on our partners and our Faculty Scholars. We are also busy planning for another productive year. We are finalizing our fall schedule for Real Time Chicago. The focus will be on 21st Century Economies, which is shaping up to be quite interesting. We have also set the date and working theme for the next Cities Across the Globe Symposium – Symposium II: Post-Crash Capitalism and Policy Analysis. We are again expecting a set of international participants who bring with them a comprehensive and comparative analysis of Cities Across the Globe. In addition, we are gathering papers from last year’s symposium for an edited book.
Here at GCI, we support the work that occurs when multiple generations come together with their knowledge and talents. This includes graduate students and recent UIC graduates that are a mainstay of GCI. We have a remarkable team this summer who work with passion and commitment towards GCI’s mission and responsibilities. This summer, we have some new additions with Xiomara Pedraza and Sara Agate.
Xiomara, a summer intern, is pursuing her Master Degree in Urban Policy at the New School in New York City. Xiomara is assisting us in building our partnerships with the Humboldt Park community and is also working on policy approaches to addressing poverty, with a focus on job development. In May, Sara Agate, received her Master Degree from UIC’s School of Public Health. GCI takes great pride in its Faculty Research Scholars and Sara is assisting us with compiling more information on our current and former scholars so that we can both highlight them on our website as well as develop a database of scholar expertise. Sara also has interest in women’s health and will help us launch an initiative on women in the city.
Xiomara and Sara join other vibrant young people at GCI including Jack Rocha, Alex Linares, Margaret Catania, and of course, Jackson Morsey. We congratulate Jackson and Alex for becoming a “MUPP,” and earning their Master Degree in Urban Planning and Policy from UIC’s Urban Planning and Policy Department. We also thank our two student accounting assistants, Lu Lu and Ying Xia, for their hard work.
